Career Subcommittee

About the Career SC: 

Ten highly motivated and talented people – Andrea, Danai, Egle, Elena, Eva, Natália, Petronille, Šimon, Tereza and Zrna – make up the Career Subcommittee of the Generation "Blue Book Trainees 2014 October Session".

Main goal of the Career SC is to provide fellow trainees with information and coachings on the tricky and very challenging matter called "Career". No matter which path you are aspiring for – becoming a staff member of the European institutions, joining an NGO or taking off to the private sector – we are here for you and we will work our *brain* off to make sure you graduate from the Traineeship Programme with a stack of options in your hands.

We are:
Zůza Hřebcová – loves everything about movies and photos;
Lotta Bonnevier – is into visual arts;
Yiota Bouga – adores performing art;
Anni Savikurki – enjoys music;
Līva Švarce – is amazed by visual and performing arts.

We will make sure to:
- provide you with weekly information about interesting, affordable cultural events;
- coordinate going to events together;
- create our own events.

Food & Wine Subcommitee

"The way to a European's heart is through their stomach." 

The Food and Wine Subcommittee capitalises on the diversity of its members to promote the best of European and international Food. We are all about the cultural and social aspect of preparing and sharing food in all its varieties.

And what is more: you can be part of this too!

We are pleased to announce our two upcoming events: 

1. The "Eurodinner": Sunday, the 16th of November from 6.30pm onwards at Bouneweger Stuff (in Bonnevoie) - nom, nom, come along!

2. The "Christmas Cookie Party": Monday, the 15th of December from 5pm onwards at the JMO building (in Kirchberg) - mulled wine and you'll be fine!

We will also organize and attend quite a few tastings together – beer, wine and coffee. Does it get any better than that?

Trips Subcommittee - fasten your seat belt!

Hop on board, fasten your seatbelts and get ready for unforgettable experiences! 

We are Anthea, Baptiste, Danae, Kasia, Sofia, Urša and Yiota and we are the Trips Subcommittee.

Get ready, because together we will explore Luxembourg and nearby countries. Luxembourg, although tiny, it is still full of surprises. Located in the heart of Europe, this beautiful little country will give us the chance to travel all around Belgium, France, Germany and - why not - even further!

Winter is not going to stop us. True travellers are not afraid of the weather conditions! Our activities include daily trips, cultural visits, hiking tours and, of course, we are in charge of this traineeship's final trip as well!

Almost every Saturday we will have a trip suggestion for you. You just have to follow us! Keep in mind that the destination doesn't really matter; the most important is the experience itself and the travelling all around!

Our first activity is set for the 8th of November in Echternach:

The Trips Subcommittee is proud to invite you on its first (wait for it ...) trip! If the God of sky and thunder has mercy on us, we will visit the city (village?) of Echternach, put on our hiking shoes, explore its beautiful surroundings and finish in the city (village?) of Berdorf.

Halo! I am a Czech trainee at Eurostat. I was lucky enough to live in different parts of the world and I never seem to get tired of meeting new people on the way. I am slightly obsessed with electronic music and I have fallen in love with squash and frisbee ultimate. I am very happy to live in the small town of Luxembourg - you can ride your bike everywhere! My current short-term goal? To get paid as much as the mythical Luxembourgish bus drivers.

Introducing the Stage Committee

Q: “Facilitate” my life? What does that mean? 
UTFG! Basically, we just try to make your life easier. True, we do not go to work for you when you are hungover, we do not make your laundry when you are lazy nor do we give you any money when you have made a decimal point error in your accounts. Instead, we and our lovely sub-committees organize social, public and career events for you and your future!

Q: Whoa! My future? But I don’t know what I want to do! Do you? 
OK, our mission is very simple - we just want to make our time in Luxembourg enjoyable for all of us! Above all, we too are just trainees and when we are old, we do not want to remember our time in Luxembourg as the time “when I worked my ass off” or “when I was able to fulfill even the deadliest of deadlines”. No! We want to remember great nights out, sleeping a little, occasional love stories, being charitable, and, hopefully, obtaining a rich work experience in an EU institution.

Q: OK, I get it. But why did you choose to become a committee member in the first place? 
Since the very beginning it was clear that we are a very strong, well-integrated group of trainees. We felt like we deserve the best of the best and the inner drive, deep inside us, fuelled our urge to lead :) 

Q: Huh.. very poetic. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? 
Yes, there is! We are just trainees like everybody else. We are here to socialize, have fun, do good, make friends and, inevitably, set on to start a proper career. We are here to help you with all of these aspects. When you need anything, tell us and we will fix it! Today, you probably haven’t heard it yet, so here it goes: “Make the best out of it!” :)

Who are we?

This is a period of changes in the European Commission! New President, new Commissioners and of course, new trainees! 50 of them, lost in a small multilingual country called Luxembourg! 

First of all, let us introduce ourselves. We are the Communication Subcommittee and our job is to keep you informed about everything that is happening in Luxembourg. If you wish to be the first to find out about all the activities and events the trainees are preparing… no doubt, you have come to the right place!

Why are we called the Luxembourg Survival Kit, you might ask?

Well, as you have already realized yourselves, Luxembourg is not the cheapest place and getting by with the trainees' salary can be somewhat challenging. But don't worry, that is where we step in. Our aim is to be your survival kit in this city, so as to allow you to make the most out of this whole experience.

Last but not least! We need you to help us out as well; we need your collaboration. We wish for all the trainees to get involved in the blog to make it everyone's blog! Bring out the writer in you and send us your stories, your cultural reviews, describe the activities organised by your subcommittees, and all the ideas that you want to share with us! Everything you wish to send us is welcome!
